Lansing (MI), March 16, 2023 – The Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning  (MACUL) has named the recipients of its 2023 MACUL Annual Awards, as Michigan Educators from around the state earned the following honors:  Innovative Leader Award, Innovative Teacher Award, Innovative Technology Professional, Innovative District Award, President’s Award and the Frank Miracola 21Things Educational Excellence Award.

The awards recognize and honor MACUL members who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the use of technology to improve education. MACUL will honor winners during its annual conference on March 15-17, 2023, held at Huntington Place in Detroit this year.

MACUL named the Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District, as the recipient of the Innovative District Award. Through the Char-Em Street STEM mobile STEM program, Char-Em ISD is bringing STEM directly to schools and providing K-8 students with focused opportunities where they develop, learn, and explore new STEM-related skills. The program allows for teachers to learn alongside their students, exploring new ways to incorporate interactive STEM learning experiences. This helps to break down barriers for student and staff participation, and also gives Char-Em the ability to impact a larger group of both students and educators. The Street STEM mascot, Eureka, can often be found alongside the STEM coordinator visiting classrooms, much to the delight of students!

Char-EM ISD serves approximately 8,000 students in 11 local public school districts, 5 private schools and 3 public school academies, and provides special education services to over 1,200 students with disabilities ages birth-26. More than 1,500 students are involved in career and technical education.

Founded in 1975, MACUL is a 33,000-member, non-profit organization dedicated to empowering educators with high-quality professional development in educational technology. Please visit www.macul.org for more information about MACUL initiatives.
