Program Overview

The natural world is alive all around us! Everywhere you look, the biological systems of plants and animals are evident, and they are critical to our planet’s needs. In the horticulture program, students learn what is happening ‘below the surface’ with the flora and fauna that exist all around us.

Horticulture is the science and art of growing plants for food, medicine, and aesthetic purposes. It’s a branch of agriculture that involves the cultivation of a wide range of plants- including trees, shrubs, flowers, and fruits & vegetables. It is different from other plant sciences because it incorporates both science and aesthetics. Horticulturists use technology to study plants and improve their quality and quantity. They also work to protect ecosystems and waterways from degradation and pollution.
